How We Operate

I am actually sitting outside writing this in just jeans and a tank... not exactly stylish but come on, it's March! In Manitoba! I also just ate a cupcake and got to play dress up all morning, needless to say it's been a pretty lovely day! 

To be fair the dress up technically counted as work... It's still in the works but I have a mini project that I'm doing on tomorrow. You'll definitely get to see the photos soon! 

I went over to my parent's house yesterday and decided to take my photos there, it seemed to go with the rugged look of the shorts and boots. It was tons of fun and so secluded out there that I actually didn't feel self-conscious... hence me reverting to a 10 year-old and climbing fences and trees! 

This outfit was perfect for yesterday, bare legs and all! I'm in love with shorts and knee highs, this scarf has such a lovely print and I managed to incorporate both rocker studs and lady-like pearls. Yes!

I had been so good the last few months with not buying any new clothes. No joke, I had spent a grand total of $15.75 (Thrift store, last month) in 2 months and was feeling pretty awesome about "shopping my closet". Then I stumbled across this little beauty of a dress and blew my record! But it's so pretty, and it was only $16 so really not even that bad, right? Right.


I've kind of been drooling over florals for a few months now and all my self control went out the window! Geeze! But I highly recommend buying one as it's the easiest way to feel sunny and cheerful. No one could be unhappy in a dress like this!

I think the website for my styling business will be up next week (yes, there will be a link!) so I've had a spring in my step the last few days. Apparently it doesn't take much to get me super excited! But it really is just such a great feeling to actually take your life into your own hands. I've always been kind of go with the flow and it's such a feeling of freedom to take charge and do something I want to do! 


I'm keeping this short though (I could ramble about this subject FOREVER) because I'm baking some lovely little red velvet cupcakes. Yum!

Notion

As I write this there are actual big, fluffy, white snowflakes falling... was it really just the other day that I was comfy outside? It's actually quite pretty though and it makes you want to curl up with a blanket and a cup of tea, I have the tea already but as it's only 3pm I think I might keep up appearances for a tiny bit longer... maybe! 


I actually like how this outfit worked out, and there was zero planning involved! I was cold and had been wearing my thick, warm cable knit leggings all morning so when it came time to venture outside I just grabbed some sweaters to layer for warmth and comfort (and decency!). To make it look a bit more pulled together I tied a belt on and added some much needed pattern with the scarf. Simple as pie! And I promise that I do own other shoes and not just these boots! With the snow and muck outside they're kind of perfect for now... but I will peel them off at some point!

Love Like a Sunset

While looking through the recent Lucky I stumbled on Gap's new ad for the denim on denim trend. Now, one thing you should know about me is that I'm a huge sucker for ads. Gasp! I hate even admitting that! In this modern world we're taught to be discerning and critical with ads due to the sheer number of them out there. For the most part I really am but when it comes to fashion and beauty ads.. I go weak at the knees and my self control walks out the door!


So, yesterday I set out to create my own version of the denim on denim trend. I really wanted to wear this with a denim bustier... but I don't have one! What I did have though was this sweet white blouse that hadn't been worn in a while. I guess it throws the denim and denim off a bit, but I still like how it turned out! Maybe I'll do a little thrifting and see what denim I can come up with and then try again! If at first you don't succeed.... go thrifting?

Yay! It's getting warmer out! I even ventured to my front yard for pictures as I wasn't freezing, so exciting! I then had a small siesta on my deck (terrace? Patio? Sentimental Heart

While I was editing these photos today I  had a bit of a laugh and came to a few conclusions.
- I desperately need a steamer! 
- Why, oh why does my backyard look like an abandoned, desolate area?
- I really need to stop sitting on my sunglasses, and/or invest in some that last longer than a day, now that it's officially Spring!
- There are actual pom-poms on the curtains in my garage.... seriously. I think I accidentally cropped them out of these pics, but check out last post if you don't believe me! I may have to add pom-poms to all of my curtains now. Very Isabel Marant! Hehe

So, I'v been doing this blog for just over a month now and I'm still getting used to the whole semi- narcissistic picture taking. I just feel so awkward! I don't know how other bloggers take their photos out in public (gasp!). Hmm... maybe it comes with practice. Anyways, this brings me to the above photo. In my opinion this is a more "real" shot of me! Just take a moment and look around it....I'll wait. 


Note the gaudy green wall (that I love!!), the random hole by my oven (long story) and the huge plaster patch job! I was going to crop it so that no one would be the wiser but I figured this was a bit more personal! So there you have it (do you feel like you know me more now?) :)

Mmmmm! Gotta love enjoying late night baking the following day!

The Way We Get By

It's a flustery blustery day so I had to move today's pics inside after about 10 shots due to a few close calls involving said wind and my lovely camera/tripod. I guess it adds good atmosphere to the photos though....maybe? Regardless, I love this dress. It has saved my butt in many style panics because you can look pulled together with little (ok, zero) effort. It's also really comfy and versatile and I think I even found it on sale!
