Inside and Out

Inside and Out- Feist
I love this dress (yes I'm doing the dress tucked into shorts trick again!) but when I first saw it I didn't think I would ever wear it. This was 3 years ago, I thought it was way too trendy and "out there" for me and that it would probably rot away in the back of my closet until I finally gave up and threw it out. I was stubborn though (and obviously, lacking any self control) and bought it. I'm so glad I did. Sometimes it's the weird things in your closet that you never thought you'd wear that end up saving you. This "dress" has been paired with so many things and worn in any season, it's great for layering and I've dressed it up and, as these photos attest to, have definitely dressed it down.

Usually I use the belt that's in my hair and tie it around the waist to add definition to the dress, seeing as I was tucking it in though I decided to wrap it into my hair. I actually ended up loving it! I felt like a princess (a cool, exotic one mind you!) and loved the black sequins against the coral/gunmetal earrings. Geeze, I'm in a very mash-up mood with my jewelry lately!

Dress: Le Chateau
Shorts: American Eagle
Shoes: Gap (check out the cute seahorses on them!!)
Belt (in hair): Gift
Earrings: Vintage (stolen from mum!)
It's a long weekend this week so I'm heading to my cabin again! I work Saturday, but that still means I get Sunday and Monday to relax and peruse my favorite old bookstore! I'll be finding a bunch of lovely, old books to add to my growing collection... is there anything better than an old book??

Bullet

Bullet: Steel Train
Definitely one of the best weekends of the year! The wedding was gorgeous (congrats J and R!) and such a good time; a mini high school reunion but minus all the drama. And the remainder of the weekend was spent relaxing with friends, learning volleyball (hah!) and playing old school games! Now why aren't all weekends like that??

Getting back into the swing of things was hard yesterday, so it was early to bed to recuperate- instead of tackling the mountain of work I'd left on Friday with intentions to finish last night. That's what Tuesdays are for though!

Dress: Club Monaco
Shirt: American Eagle
Shoes: Franco Sarto
Necklace and Bangle: Le Chateau
Apricot: Yum!
This is actually the dress I bought when I got my first real "grown-up" job, it's quite heavy and has this gorgeous retro flower print on it. I remember putting it on and just feeling like a classy business lady! I love it when clothes bring back happy memories and I can still muster up the same feeling when I slip this dress on now!
Happy Tuesday!

Turnpike Ghost

Turnpike Ghost- Tegan and Sara (Steel Train cover)
I found this little romper when I was in Montreal and it was instant love (or lust... I'm not sure as I'm still in the honeymoon stage). I was going to wear it to my friend's wedding this weekend (I swear its ecru/taupe... not as ivory as it appears here!) but I needed some interesting jewelry to wake it up and make it even less wedding-y and wasn't happy with anything in my current collection. So after a grueling pros and cons list I've decided to wear a different dress that I have accessories for and is nowhere near the colour white/ivory! Phew!

That meant that I was free to wear this guy today though! Which made me very happy and also made me super productive (I fully believe in the correlation between loving your outfit and your productivity! Bosses take note!) I paired it with my handy thrifted blazer and just some wedges and a watch, keeping it simple and easy.

Silk Romper: FCUK (Super Sale!)
Blazer: Thrifted
Shoes: Aldo
Watch: Guess
Earrings: Vintage
I seem to be having the craziest most exhausting week (hence the major bags under my eyes here!) But I'm leaving for the lake soon for a weekend with friends and the above mentioned wedding, so my whining is done and I'm ready to relax, sit on a dock, celebrate and win some games of Uno! Bring on the weekend!

The Cave

The Cave- Mumford & Sons
This was my outfit on Sunday, a very lazy day that called for an equally relaxed ensemble! You can't really go wrong with a boyfriend style white shirt and denim shorts. I just added a few accessories to make it my own and I was good to go!
I should probably stop buying white though as it never stays clean. I'm really klutzy to begin with but for some reason dirt just flies towards me when I'm in anything clean and white! By the end of the day I had cake batter, freezie and just regular dirt on the shirt. Hmm...

Well. At least it looked cute for 10 minutes!
Shirt: Bluenotes
Shorts: Le Chateau
Shoes: Pierre Hardy for Gap
Men's watch and Scarf: Vintage
Leaf Earrings: ??
Just a quick post today, I'm pretty much running out the door as I type (this may be the cause of my klutzyness!)! Have a lovely Monday!!

Sorry

Life In Film- Sorry (Thanks for the song S.!)
Do you ever find that as soon as you stop looking for something it just shows up. On your doorstop. Wrapped in a pretty bow? Well that has been happening to me a lot lately. Now that I'm *trying* to take my life into my own hands and make my own way things that I'd always looked for keep just popping up. It seems like I'm being punked!
As you all know (because I seem to talk about it A LOT!) the town I live in isn't exactly at the cutting edge, I love it though and don't want to move right now. I want to work with it and make it more fashionable, I've always wanted to do this but I thought for some reason that someone else would have to start the movement. Since starting my styling business I keep running into the most amazing, stylish and ambitious women who actually live in my town!! It's just so inspiring being around them and it makes me want to work harder and push myself further. We've decided to just go for it and I'm sure you'll be seeing some of our super exciting plans soon enough!
Leotard: Old, from dance!
Shorts and Vest: American Eagle
Belt: Gap
Boots: Winners
 Necklace: From the Earth
Flowers: In parent's backyard... sadly I don't have any lovely Peonies at my place. Next year hopefully!
This is actually an outfit that I wore last week and then ran out of time to post! I tend to dress for my mood and felt like being a bit of a rocker that day. To me sequins, boots, ripped denim and big hair= rocker. :)
Have a gorgeous weekend!

P.S Two of my favorite bloggers featured me on their blogs for the IFB I Heart Blogs event! I was beyond flattered as I love both of their blogs and they both seem just so darn nice! If you get a chance check out Kate at O My Heart and Becky at Blah Blah Becky! Time well spent, in my opinion!

In Your Hands

Bah! What has happened to my time?! It's 8pm right now and I'm still running around! I guess I'm not really complaining though... I would rather be too busy than have nothing to do!

I've had this skirt for ages, it's a few sizes too big so I hardly wear it but I really felt like being a lady today so I tucked it under my shirt and belted it to make it stay up... it kinda worked. Well, there were lots of readjustments all day. But I didn't flash anyone (yay!). I'm really loving pairing plain tee's with fancy skirts lately. It's such a cute juxtaposition, and I love anything unexpected!

Tee: American Apparel
Skirt: Thrifted
Belt: Gap
Shoes: Aldo
Watch: Guess
Bow Headband: Le Chateau
Self Made Necklace
Lovely: Animated movies! I'm heading out to see Despicable Me right now and I am SO excited! I swear, I'm still just a scrawny, rambunctious, little 5 year old inside!

Running Down a Dream

I probably shouldn't admit this, being a personal shopper and all, but I could not get dressed this morning! I guess it happens to everyone but usually I can throw together an outfit pretty quickly and look put-together... that was not the story this AM. In the end, after a few questionable attempts, I decided to take my own advice and when in doubt, go classic. A button down never fails to make even the most frazzled person look classy (*Note: Please iron it though people!) and shorts were required in the heat. Then I used my favorite accessories to make it more personal, and I'm pretty happy with how it all turned out!

As for the hair, a few days ago I saw that the lovely Taylor at Sterling Style posted this adorable video on how to do a Fishtail Braid. I had always been supremely intimidated by these braids, they look so intricate, but they're surprisingly easy! This was my first attempt so it's a little messy, but I think if I actually put some product in my hair it will be my go to summer hair style!
Top (Shirtdress, folded up) and belt: Gap
Shorts (self-made cut offs): Joe
Shoes: Pierre Hardy for Gap (wow... lots of Gap!)
Men's Watch: Vintage
(Please excuse the glare in the above photo, the sun was trying to burn my eyes out!)
Lovely: Watching something grow from a seed, I swear it's the simple things in life like this that mean the most. I'm so proud of my tomato plant, even though he has yet to produce a tomato! :)

I'm away again for the weekend so I might be a little MIA but have a few exciting things coming up for the next few weeks! Eek! I hope everyone has a wonderful weekend, TGIF!

Big Jet Plane

Finally, a hot day! I know some of you guys are melting over on the east coast, so this won't be exciting for you, but it definitely put a smile on my face! I pulled out my khaki shorts and lace vest just for the beautiful day and then felt like being extra festive so I also put on my flower necklace! It's all very subdued tones, but there's enough interest in the designs of the pieces to keep it from being boring.

I had to run out to the parent's place today and while I was there I tested out my childhood playground again, something I normally do when I'm there... 'cause I'm cool like that. Though, I don't think I'd much like people who never play on playgrounds anymore.

Lace Vest: Tristan
Shorts: Smart Set
Cami: F21
Flower Necklace: Accessorize
Shoes: Pierre Hardy for Gap
Belt: Vintage
Lovely: Erm... so I know this is totally just for me, but sometimes you have to be selfish, right? The lovely thing for this post is Binx. My gorgeous, pissed off, brat of a cat who hates having his picture taken. I swear I'm not a crazy cat lady (most of the time) but this little guy can really turn on the charm when he wants to and I miss having him around my house (he only spends the winters with me). So there, I'm done being selfish and now you can all stare at Binx!

Full Moon

This is the story of a girl who desperately wanted a crop top. Yes, as in "Geeze, didn't they wear those in the '90's?". I must admit, when I first saw this trend a few months ago I was hesitant. Thoughts of Trailer parks, neon spandex and scrunchies (rumour is that these little dudes are trailblazing back too... hmmm) first came to mind. After mellowing for a bit I discovered that every time I saw some fashionista wearing one of these perfectly slouchy, midriff baring wonders I would instantly love the outfit.

Apparently I did not love the top enough to spend any hard earned money on it though. They're just so "trendy" and I have a tough time parting with money for uber trendy items. And then... Light bulb!

I have a slouchy tee that I never wear and would be a perfect little crop top!

So I laid out the (soon-to-be-epic) tee and snipped away a couple inches. I brought it up to about an inch below my belly-button (to keep it...classy??) and then kept it a bit longer in the back to make it have more flow.

And BAM! I have a crop top now, that didn't cost me a thing! (This is my intense face. I know, I'm hard core. No biggie.) :)
And of course I got too excited and changed into the "new" top right away. I paired it with some skinny jeans to balance out the looseness on top. The braids keep it looking too too, you know? Tight pants and a bare midriff is probably enough scandal for this girl. The peacock earrings and old messenger bag also tame the look and make it more everyday appropriate.
Crop Top: DIY Gap
Jeans: Winners
Shoes: Nine West
Belt: Gap
Messenger Bag: Stolen from Mum about 10 years ago. Thanks Mum!
Earrings: Gift

Lovely: Making your own ice cream! It's such a great summer time tradition and this is partly what my weekend consisted of! We made a lemon sorbet and a "premium" (debatable!)  vanilla ice cream. A chocolate fudgesicle was lined up too... but there aren't enough hours in the weekend!
Have a wonderful Tuesday!
