Half of Something Else

What does one wear when it's sweltering hot and they don't have a/c? Since I have a couple neighbours who are a little too close for the answer to be a bathing suit, I threw on the little sundress that I borrowed from the ever-lovely Cara over at A Fashion Love Affair and was very content!
Last weekend was a nice little blur of hikes, reading, wandering the city and cooking tasty foods... basically I'm soaking up my summer freedom as much as I can before drowning in homework, essays and GPA stress come September!
Navajo Print Dress- Swapped with Cara, Belt and Watch- Thrifted, Wood Sandals- Pierre Hardy for Gap, Clutch- Old Navy, Assorted Bracelets
And to continue on this lovely little relaxation trip, I'm heading out after work tonight to meet up with some of my favourite Vancouver bloggers for dinner. I'm so excited for the evening of chats, food and fashion with these pretty ladies!

Terrible Love

Oh how much I love this little lace dress!
And since coming to the conclusion that every Fall lace, leopard print and red will be in "in style" I don't think my love will fade any time soon. That reminds me, cost per wear justification calculations, I love you too.
Lace Dress- American Apparel, Grey Suede Heels- Nine West, Black Belt- Vintage, Blush Necklace- FXXI, Pink Clutch- Aldo, Assorted Bracelets
Aaaand this is a view that you just don't get in rural Manitoba...
My lace dress took me to a fancy dress, champagne bubbly birthday party for a friend that was so much better because we were high up in a pretty city watching the sunset and eating tiramisu cake.
Be jealous, very jealous.

Comeback Kid

Comeback Kid- Brett Dennen
It has just been gorgeous here! Beach bumming and cute little dresses have been necessities, especially when they're as cute as this little one that I borrowed from the lovely Veronika over at Girl & Closet at the last blogger swap.

I love that she last wore it on her blog back in March, when Vancouver was quite a bit colder. She added a lace shirt underneath, tights, flats... and looked utterly adorable! I had fun playing off the flower colours in it and added bright happy heels, poppy lips and (my current staple) wrap and sequin bracelets!
Dress- Borrowed from Veronika, Yellow Heels and Taupe Belt- Aldo, Various Bracelets- Club Monaco, Le Chateau, H&M, DIY
I actually wore this outfit last Sunday for an evening at English Bay, and despite almost getting a soccer ball kicked at my head (thankfully it hit my shoulder and I got to pretend to be cool/co-ordinated) (sarcasm*) the evening was pretty fun. And the dress was perfect for it, swapping is kinda awesome- I highly recommend trying it out with your friends!

Moves

Moves- The New Pornographers
Guess who found a haaat?! (please sing that, as I just did) It's not the right hat, but it's a right now hat. My real lover hat is roughly this shape and style but a taupy brown colour. Oh, and it would actually fit my head. This one just cuts off circulation and makes a delightful red band around my head that doesn't go away.
Awkwaaaard.
But it's cute and it was only $2 at the local thrift store, so it will tide me over till I can find my true love.
Floral Dress- H&M, Brocade Scarf- Picked up in my travels...somewhere?, Wood Platform Heels- Pierre Hardy for Gap, White Felt Panama Hat- Thrifted, Grandpa Watch- Vintage, Silver Bracelet- Gift, Hex Nut Bracelet- DIY!
I'm back from Toronto today, after a week away, and then it's a quick sleep at home before flitting off on a road trip to Kelowna for my sister's grad. Oh the life of a Canadian jet-setter is so glam!
I'm so proud of my sister though, she's been in school since she was 4 and has always set the bar so high, so I'm thrilled that I get to celebrate with her at the end. Plus, I really don't think I've met any people who throw a better/wilder party than doctors. True fact. (also a scary one!)
Hope your week is just as much fun!

Rumor Has It

Rumor Has It- Adele
Does anyone else feel that this week has been kinda crazy historical?? Elections, a  fairy tale wedding, Osama Bin Laden and a (very important!) letter of decision that I've been waiting on. Crazy stuff for one 4 day stretch!
And I really wanted to write a post for the Royal Wedding; after avoiding the hype for so long, my mum and some friends finally cracked me and I became quite obsessed. Quickly. We're talking a 2:50am wake up call to watch it. Shhh! But instead I had a really relaxing weekend with my lovely sister and now it's kinda late (and very redundant!) to recap all the details. Just know that the little Brit in me LOVED it and had big warm fuzzy feelings all Friday, especially when thinking of the Grace Kelly-esque dress. Le sigh!

Black Dress- Le Chateau, White Silk Blouse- Thrifted, Paisley Scarf- Vintage, Wood Platform Heels- Pierre Hardy for Gap, Bauble Necklace- Loft (won!! At Miss Influenced
So this is my version of the Audrey Hepburn bun that I've been dying to try; it was surprisingly easy and made everything look so posh (even my housecoat. Bam!). And it makes me feel that I at least look like a lady, just don't focus on those darn fly-aways...
I'm also unveiling the pretty pretty necklace I won from Molly at Miss Influenced, did I mention that it's pretty? Because it is. And it also makes simple outfits look like I actually tried- and I LOVE that.
See people, historical events. :)

Take Me to the Riot

Take Me to the Riot- Stars
I have a confession guys- I am incredibly introverted and awkward. Taking photos in front of people scares the bejeezus out of me- I immediately clam up and can only remember how to make ridiculous faces (yes, they get more ridiculous!). I've known this fact for years: My mum informed me when I was 10 that I was not at all photogenic, and could not in fact sing. Gee, thanks mother. But surprisingly, my mum is so sweet that these facts actually came out as compliments... I still don't understand how...
Anyways, that brings me to this hidden little place that I found to take these photos. I decided to veer off the usual path while at the canyon and came across a sunlit little patch of hidden glory! Imagine my delight that I could take my photos once again in solitude!
Floral Dress- Winners, Black Blazer- Thrifted, Black Cami- Banana Republic, Black Boots- House of Harlow, Black Tights- Target, Wrap Bracelets- Club Monaco and DIY, Brown Belt- Vintage
And this is a little photo from my other piece of solitude this weekend- chilling out max (and relaxing all cool and shooting... no?? Am I the only one who remembers Fresh Prince?) at Ambleside beach on Saturday. The sun was shining and I had a new book to dive into. C'est parfait!

Bambi

Bambi- Tokyo Police Club
Whew! Some how it's only Wednesday. I'm not quite sure how this is possible as it feels like I should be having a long stretch of a weekend coming up right about now... but I've double checked my calendar all day, and I'm 80% sure it's not lying! But it has been a good Wednesday regardless, I've found some awesome new roommates and have a very promising lead on a house! You have no idea how much I've been stressing over the living situation recently (the looming deadline wasn't helping!) so I'm feeling much lighter today.
So with that slightly more sorted, I went for a little walk and photo shoot at the canyon after work today, playing hide and go seek with all the good people who were out jogging and not being narcissistic!
Not too impressed with all the rain today!
Pastel Flower Dress- H&M, Purple Sweater- Gap, Purple Belt- American Apparel, Black Boots- House of Harlow, Black Tights- Target, Camel Trench and Black Beret- Le Chateau, Silver Leaf and Bliss Necklace- Gifts
Oh! And I found a coat rack... obviously nature-made just for me. Yup, a very good Wednesday!

Sail

Sail- Awolnation
So, would you like to know how I ended up with yet another dress?? You do!? Awesome.

This past weekend was a friend's wedding in Calgary, and since I'm an idiot I decided to drive the 12hr there and then 12hrs back in 3 days. I grabbed some audiobooks, snacks, coffee and my game face, everything but a dress. Now, I didn't forget a dress but remember when I moved from MB to BC? Yeah... it seems that all of my dresses got tucked away into a neat little box that is in storage thousands of miles away from me (see: idiot). I thought I'd be fine, Calgary has tons of stores! I figured I'd drive all day Friday, get up early on Saturday and find a pretty little number in the morning with plenty of time to relax before the ceremony. INSTEAD I drove 9 hrs only to find out that the highway was closed and I was stranded in the middle of nowhere for the night.

When I finally rolled into Calgary the next day I was seriously running late. I dashed into the first store I found and managed to pick up this little number for 30% off! That's right. I just might have to upgrade myself from idiot!
Navy Lace Dress- Jacob, Sash- Flea Market, Nude Shoes and Turquoise Earrings- Aldo, Leather Wrap Bracelet- H&M
Anyway the wedding was so gorgeous and fun (they had macarons and a photobooth!) and was definitely worth the jinxed roadtrip (I won't even get started on the trip back... 6hrs waiting on the side of the road for the highway to reopen is as fun as it sounds).

Go Your Own Way

Go Your Own Way- Fleetwood Mac (yeah. That's right!)
I've been saving this little dress for photos for when it's sunny enough to go without a cover-up. It has the cutest cut- all Audrey Hepburn on top and pouffy below the waist, I feel like quite the pretty ballerina when I wear it...and isn't that every girl's wish?? So I decided to forgo the waiting and post photos the next time I wore it, I always was crap at waiting for things anyways!
Polka Dot Dress- Zara, Red Coat- Costa Blanca, Brown Belt- Vintage, Black Tights- Target, Brown Colour Clock Shoes- Mellow Yellow, Gold Feather Bracelet- Archive Vintage

I keep seeing people rocking the most perfect vintage brooches everywhere, and as I was cropping these photos I couldn't help but feel that this outfit would be brought up that extra bit with a little beauty attached to it. Too bad about the self-imposed shopping ban... a girl can hope and wish though (and possibly search her mum's vintage jewelry collection next time she visits MB!)
Have a wonderful Tuesday lovelies!
